Fortitude is a pre – employability project that utilises Music and the Creative Industries to develop transferable employability skills and to build confidence, self-esteem and resilience in young people aged 16 – 24 who are not in education, training or employment.

Everyone gets involved in music making and learning activities over an 8 – 10 week course (2 days a week) and engages in all kinds of activities such as songwriting, instrument and performance, tuition, voice coaching, music video production and much more.

They also receive tutor support to look at the barriers in the way of them following their aspirations in life.

This course covers music from acoustic songwriting to rap, and the groups work towards a final showcase event to celebrate course completion.

It aims not only to build their skills within music and creativity, but also their confidence and ‘resilience toolbox’. It opens their minds to careers as practising creatives, artists & musicians as well many other roles within music, and the creative industries, while also raising their aspirations.

The project not only supports participants to reflect on their own aspirations as artists & creative practitioners but also asks that participants work collaboratively towards the creation of a shared song and music video to showcase as part of their end of course performance.

Participants work collaboratively towards the creation of a shared song and music video to showcase as part of their end of course performance. Alongside this participants also receive individual support to identify possible barriers inhibiting them from fully participating in this process.
