Miskin Looked After Children Arts Support

The Miskin project support young people at risk of going into care of looked after children.

For years we have worked with their staff to develop sessions that develop the mental wellbeing of young people through the arts.

Craft of Hearts have been working with 3 groups, boys, girls and families to create crafts and build relationships with their social workers and support workers at the facility. These sessions also give the young people the opportunity to form close bonds with their friends.

During the pandemic lockdown all contact stopped however we delivered arts and crafts boxes to their homes to ensure they still had some sort of contact with the Miskin project. The groups absolutely loved being able to have the arts and crafts packs sent home and some even encouraged their families to take part adding another dimension to the activities in terms of their wellbeing and home life.

We have also commissioned singer songwriter Jessie Jenkins and Evan Gardner to run song writing sessions where young people interested in music and playing instruments worked together to write 3 songs together.

The young people at the Miskin project have also had access to record their own songs and work individually with visiting artists through Families First funding, this allows them to expand their musical taste learning from various artists and their styles.
